East Metro receives H1N1 injectable vaccine

The first shipment of H1N1 Injectable vaccine has arrived at the East Metro Health District serving Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale Counties. 15,200 doses of vaccine arrived at the district office late Friday. The vaccine is being disseminated within the five health department clinics, first responders, major clinics, and some doctor's offices.

Health Department clinics in Covington will begin providing the H1N1 injectable vaccine today, Nov. 2.

Fall Fun: Three Pre-K classes at Live Oak Elementary School participated in a fun pumpkin party Thursday morning. Around 60 students, teachers, and parents took part in Halloween activities, including pumpkin and cookie decorating, a ring the pumpkin game, a bean bag toss game and facepainting.

The parents of recently injured Deputy Wesley Atha have organized a fundraising campaign to purchase these vests for every county deputy. Their fundraising goal is $113,000. Each vest costs between $500-$700, depending on the size. Each Friday The Covington News will publish a list of individuals, businesses and civic groups who have donated to the cause that week as well as the total amount raised. Boy Scout nature center dedicated to a distinguished local volunteer

Distinguished Eagle Scout John S. "Jack" Langford, a Senior Judge of the Superior Court of Georgia, was honored Saturday during a dedication for the newly built nature center at Bert Adams Scout Reservation in Covington. Langford was and continues to be an important leader for the Boy Scouts of the Atlanta area. As a cornerstone of the newly renovated Camp Bert Adams, the Nature Center will carry on Langford's legacy as it helps to meet the growing needs of the thousands of Scouts and their leaders that attend the camp every year.
