Mother convicted of ’07 murder of infant

Five years after her 5-week-old Malay Yvette Chandler died, her mother Quanitta Yvette Turner has been convicted of murdering the newborn.

Immediately after the baby's death, Turner told investigators with the Newton County Sheriff's Office that she had accidentally rolled over on the baby while sleeping, but when the child started to cry, she woke up.

Woman stabs boyfriend; man arrested

Covington police responded to a call about an assault at a home located at Jefferson Village Boulevard on Tuesday night. They spoke with a woman who said she stabbed her boyfriend Demetrius Victor with a knife after he hit her in the eye and knocked her down. The woman said she stabbed Victor out of self defense. Storage facility robbed at gunpoint

Covington police are looking for a man they said robbed the South of the Square Storage located on Ga. Highway 36 on Tuesday.

Chief Ken Malcom said the robbery happened around noon, when a black male wearing a black hoodie, black shorts and black tennis shoes with red laces walked in and demanded money from a female clerk in the store.

One of the co-defendants in the murder of Tim Clements took the stand on the fourth day of the death penalty trail against the alleged ringleader, Pablo Maldonado and, along with Chief Assistant District Attorney Anne Kurtz, reenacted the 2009 murder of the popular landscaper.

No one injured in car fire on I-20

A passenger vehicle caught on fire around 4 p.m. Monday on Interstate 20 near the Almon Road exit, but there were no injuries and the fire was contained shortly after firefighters arrived on the scene, said Brad Stapp, Newton County Fire Deputy Chief.
