GPTC Foundation hosts annual Family Fun and Food Fest

Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC), through its Foundation, will host its annual Family Fun and Food Fest, Saturday, June 7, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Family Fun and Food Fest will be held at the Newton Campus D Building and Conference Center. Now in its third year, the festival serves as a fundraiser for the GPTC Foundation. Admission to the event, including all activities, is free.

New attitude: The Newton County Sheriff's Office warrant's division has a new look. Three new black and white 2010 Dodge Chargers were purchased as replacement vehicles for the warrant division two weeks ago. The cars have been painted in the classic black and white style of original patrol vehicles.

Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home business professional earns certification

The National Funeral Directors Association has awarded the nationally recognized Certified Preplanning Consultant designation to Brenda Fuller Johnson, Preplanning Counselor at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home. The CPC certification program is considered the standard of excellence in funeral service for individuals who help families plan funerals in advance. In order for Johnson to become a Certified Preplanning Consultant, she had to meet specific program requirements and pass an examination based on a standards manual. CPCs must demonstrate their ongoing professional commitment by fulfilling learning requirements as they renew their certification every four years.

Meeting set for input on local farmer’s market

 At 5:30 p.m. March 25, 2010 at The Center for Community Preservation & Planning there will be a public meeting to discuss the development of a Farmer's Market for Newton County. This initiative is an outcome of the program of work being undertaken by the Green Enterprise Group, a working committee formed under the auspices of the Newton County Leadership Collaborative. The mission of the group is to promote the creation of a green enterprise economy with agriculture at its core. One of the identified priorities was the redevelopment of a farmer's market

Spring has sprung

A beautiful day complemented the fun had by all at the 19th Annual Cherry Blossom Charity Croquet Tournament at Legion Field Saturday. The Heartland Woman's Club hosted the event to raise funds for Covington YMCA, Habitat for Humanity of Newton County and Project ReNeWal.

The games began at 10 a.m. Saturday as two-person teams took the field for competition. Each team competed in three round-robin rounds before breaking for lunch and to cool off in the shade of the pavilion. Once the championship bracket was posted, teams returned to the field to compete for the first place trophy.
