The Movember Movement

This Thanksgiving, as I sat around listening to family stories and eating turkey (no lasagna has been made since my grandmother passed), I noticed that there was an abundance of facial hair. Really creative, somewhat whimsical, and abundant facial hair. It was on the cousins and the uncles. It was on football players, commercial actors, and parade commentators. Going for Eagle Scout

The final steps: High School Senior Nic Walter is trying to educate local residents about the value of the Dried Indian Creek wetlands and pier as part of his Eagle Scout project. He is planning to place signs by the wetlands explaining how the plants filter stormwater runoff and protect the area's other plant and animal life. In addition, he is planning to place signs on the pier describing and naming the various wetland plants. Walter is the son of Kevin Walter and Jean Fowler.

Wire woes

Under the wire: A little after 3 p.m., a dump truck caught and tore down several spans of an AT&T telephone cable on Washington St. In addition to causing traffic jams while the damaged lines were repaired, it also caused lights to flicker throughout town as the wires collided and touched in the air. Businesses and homes along Washington Street and in downtown Covington experienced brief power loss.

Little Miss Covington

The inaugural 2010 Miss Covington and Little Miss Covington Pageant was held Saturday morning at Eastside High School. Participants were judged on a 1 -10 scale, with 10 being the highest. Judges will make their decisions based on overall appearance, first impression, beauty, poise and personality. The winner (Queen/King) in each division received a rhinestone tiara/crown, monogrammed sash, flowers and a large trophy. The winners were:
