Cousins student dies in car crash

A Cousins Middle School student is dead following a car crash in Jasper County.

Nigel Griffey, 13, as well as his mother, 39-year-old Alice Goolsby, were both killed when a car being driven by a 16-year-old female was unable to stop at a stop sign in Monticello. The crash occurred at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Man fires gun into air after driver passes him

A Covington man was arrested for discharging a firearm in the city after allegedly firing a gun in the air after another driver passed him.

According to reports by officers from the Covington Police Department, a woman called authorities and told them that she had been traveling south on Alcovy Road and turned onto Herring Street where she got behind a silver Grand AM. She said that the driver of that vehicle turned on his emergency flashers and began hitting the brakes.
