Traffic moving slowly at I-20 west, exit 93

UPDATE: The right lane of traffic on I-20 westbound at Ga. Highway 142, exit 93 (near Home Depot), in Newton County is open but traffic is still backed up. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes. All lanes were blocked earlier with a crash that resulted in three injuries, no fatalities.

NCSS may see jump in revenue

An unexpected jump in projected revenue has the Newton County School System in a more positive place fiscally for the beginning of the 2014-15 school year. However, the projected increase will still give the NCSS only three more days of operating expenses.

Railroad crossings to be paved over

Drivers will no longer have to stop at many of those pesky railroad crossing stop signs in the county as the Newton County Public Works department is paving over five of the crossings over the next several days.

Bidding begins for gas providers

As the price of gas continues to rise, Covington is trying to save money and gain supply stability by purchasing in bulk. In April Covington joined the North Georgia Fuel Cooperative, a 16-local-government-agency cooperative that is pooling its fuel needs in an effort to secure less expensive gas prices.
