Keeping Forests in Forests program helps clean Georgia’s air

Trees preserved as part of the Keeping Forests in Forests (KFIF) carbon offset program helped clean Georgia's air by sequestering 7,816 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents (MtCO2e) since the program was launched in March 2009. The sequestration figures are included in a report prepared for the Carbon TreeBank, LLC – one of three partners in the Keeping Forests in Forests initiative – by Forecon EcoMarket Solutions, LLC, an independent environmental sciences consultant hired to verify program results.

Judge denies motion to withdraw Crowder guilty plea

A request made by convicted murderer Darrell Antonio Crowder to withdraw his guilty plea in the murder of his estranged wife, was denied by Newton County Superior Court Judge Eugene Benton.

Crowder initially pleaded guilty in December 2009 but said he did so under pressure from his attorney Garland Benny Cook, Jr., who he alleged told him that if he took a plea he could "probably get out in 15 years or so." He also testified that Cook did not come up with a defense for him.
