Scout Central

On my honor: Boy Scout troops in Newton and Rockdale counties came together on Saturday for a centennial scouting expo. Different troops had booths set up, displaying various scout activities. Bean bag tosses, fire-making classes, a rope course and more were offered. The event was held at the Parker Road Government Center in Rockdale.

Bridgestone asks for refund after tax error

Bridgestone Golf is asking Newton County for a tax refund of $108,000, because some of Bridgestone's equipment was incorrectly assessed on its tax filings in 2006 and 2007.

InVest in the NCSO - Feb. 5

The parents of recently injured Deputy Wesley Atha have organized a fundraising campaign to purchase these vests for every county deputy. Their fundraising goal is $113,000. Each vest costs between $500-$700, depending on the size. Each Friday The Covington News will publish a list of individuals, businesses and civic groups who have donated to the cause that week as well as the total amount raised.
