Some Mansfield city residents are unhappy with plans to place new power lines right through the middle of their neighborhood on County Road 213, and they're planning to discuss the issue at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mansfield Community Center, 3158 Ga. Highway 11.
There are two new reasons to visit Chimney Park located behind the Newton County Library, 7116 Floyd Street, in Covington. Chainsaw artist Ben Eidson of Shady Dale turned his chainsaw loose on the massive trunk of an oak that fell during the spring storms and created an interesting bench with three seating areas, perfect for a peaceful afternoon's rest. Then he turned his attention to creating a mystical face of a wood nymph in the trunk of a dead tree near the storytelling area.
When a 27-year-old woman was found running naked down Taylor Road Sept. 19, 2010 she told authorities she had escaped from her ex-boyfriend who had held her hostage and assaulted her. That man pleaded guilty to charges stemming from that incident Tuesday.
The railroad crossing at U.S. Highway 278 near West Street will be paved over beginning Aug. 8. Although the road will remain open to traffic, travelers can expect single lane closures in the area from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Aug. 11.
The second annual Let's Make a Miracle Car & Bike Show was held yesterday at Turner Lake Complex. Cars, trucks and motorcycles were on display and several vendors sold food, such as bar-b-que and funnel cakes.
