As the Sims Chapel Baptist Church celebrates today its One Hundred and Twenty Ninth Anniversary it adds to the day recognition of the one known at the "Mother of the Church" Mrs. Emma Allen. Truly she is a matriarch of that congregation on whose shoulders that congregation stands.

Local tree shining brightly at Governor's Mansion

A new home: Covington resident JoAnn Sims' 35-foot tall red cedar tree was cut and placed in the Governor's Mansion front yard for Christmas, and on Dec. 5 the lights came on. Sims donated the tree, which she planted 30 years ago.

Christmas light tour: Social Circle

The Covington News is looking for suggestions on which houses in the area are all dressed up for the holidays and worth a drive to see.
Here's a suggestion from columnist Beth Rowe.
This house is on the corner of Dogwood and East Hightower Trail in Social Circle. It is a two-story house with guest quarters in back that are also decorated in lights. Beth says to be sure to check out the huge tree on the back side covered in lights.
