DUI driver victim to speak at GPTC

Chris Sandy was a normal 22-year-old kid. He enjoyed playing sports, fishing and hanging out with his friends. In 2000, that normal life came to an abrupt end when Chris decided to go to a party, slam down four drinks, and then drive on a country road outside Atlanta, Ga. Traveling at a speed of 77 mph in a 35-mph speed zone, Sandy's car crashed into an oncoming vehicle, killing the elderly couple in the oncoming car.

Pedestrian killed trying to cross road

Benita O'Neal Marks, 57, of Covington, was killed Thursday as she attempted to cross Ga. Highway 36 at Lassiter Street around 6:50 p.m.

A 2007 Ford F150 driven by Derrick Nichols of Covington was traveling south when Marks reportedly stepped in front of his vehicle, according to Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright. Nichols did stop his vehicle when he struck Marks.

Family feud with Bobo and a broom

Police responded to a couple fighting over the custody of their child Friday and arrested one person.

They spoke with the couple and the female reportedly told them her child's father and boyfriend of two years, Kevin Bobo, was threatening to take their 10-moth-old away from her, causing a heated argument between the two.
