The Newton boys' basketball team honored Becky Rutledge, widow of former longtime administrator J.W. Rutledge, for donating new blazers and ties in a pre-game ceremony Tuesday. She donated a new set of the patented blue blazers and ties Newton players and coaches wear before games to replace the set the Rutledge family donated several years ago.

Crowning glory: Eastside High Senior Tyeshia Little was crowned the 2009-2010 homecoming queen on Friday night during the game against the Elbert County. The Eagles beat the Blue Devils 25-7.
About 725 runners and walkers were up bright and early Saturday morning for the eighth annual Cheerios Challenge, along with more than 500 onlookers and supporters and 102 volunteers who pitched in to make the event a success.
