Clydia Newell to be Porterdale Elementary principal

COVINGTON, Ga. - Clydia Newell will be the new principal at Porterdale Elementary School starting July 10. She was appointed by the Newton County School System (NCSS) Board of Education (BOE) during a special called meeting on June 12. Newell will fill the vacancy created when current principal Nikkita Warfield moves to the NCSS central office as director of secondary education.

School system reviews draft 2017-2018 budget

At an April 25 special called meeting, Newton County School System (NCSS) Board of Education (BOE) members and administrators reviewed an early draft of the NCSS's tentative budget for 2017-2018. The tentative budget now will be finalized and acted on at the BOE's May 9 meeting. Whatever version is approved will be published in The Covington News, the legal organ of Newton County, and thus made available for public review and comment.

Legislators seek to give BOE authority to set salaries

Newton County's four legislators could not come to a unanimous yes or no decision about the Newton County School System (NCSS) Board of Education's (BOE's) request for a salary increase for each member of the BOE. So they agreed to give the BOE authority to make its own decisions about future salary increases.
