The Eastside High School volleyball team suffered a devastating loss at home in the Class AAAA state playoffs Thursday night. Despite a valiant effort, the Eagles fell 3-2 to the visiting West Hall Spartans.
In the words of head coach Maggie Johnston, the Eastside softball team is "one step closer" to the state championships after a 2-0 (25-10, 25-10) win over the Salem Seminoles during their area tournament at home.
The Newton High School football team got its first taste of region play when the Souath Gwinnett Comets came to town on Friday, and it was Preston Taylor who gave the Rams their first region 8-AAAAAAA win. Down two points with six seconds remaining in the game, the kicker nailed a 38-yard field goal to give Newton a 13-12 victory.
The Eastside High School softball team continued its region dominance with a shutout four-inning win against Luella Tuesday. Due to the high school mercy rule, the Eagles grabbed the win after going up 12-0 early.

It is also no secret that he has been the subject of major recruiting news, with college football powerhouses like Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama and many more currently knocking at his doorstep.
The Eastside volleyball team continued its winning streak Thursday with two back-to-back wins. The Eagles went 2-0 against the Rockdale Bulldogs before pulling off a comeback against the Lovejoy Wildcats to take home a 2-1 victory.
