Trash, in the hands of artists, really can become treasure. The evidence is an impressive welded art piece, made entirely of discarded items, that now stands sentinel at Oconee Metal Recovery, serving as a kind of gateway to Porterdale. Twelve Oaks hosted fans of "The Vampire Diaries" Thursday as part of the EyeCon convention held in Atlanta this weekend. Fans got to trick-or-treat on the square before coming back to Twelve Oaks to relax on the bed and breakfast lawn for a screening of the hit drama. Fans were joined by Trent Ford, who used to play Trevor on the show.
Recently, I headed south to Macon and the Cox Capitol Theatre, located in downtown Macon, at 368 Second St. The Cox Capitol Theatre was built in 1897, but closed shortly in 1900. The Strong Shoe Company purchased the building and remained there for more than 15 years. Today, the building serves as a movie theater as well as a live entertainment venue. At a Senior Expo held Friday at the Senior Services Center in the Turner Lake complex in Covington, senior citizens had access to information about a variety of services and programs for seniors.
