The Town House Cafe Story
Newton Fund kicked off Jersey Day at the board room in Covington's historic courthouse on Friday. The Jersey Day initiative will focus on developing philanthropic opportunities with local businesses by donating a few dollars to wear their favorite jerseys to work each Friday. Proceeds will be awarded to Newton County nonprofits in early 2015.
The small rain showers that covered Covington Thursday afternoon didn't stop friends Hannah Bohanan, Morgan Conner and Lindsay Coker from getting out and enjoying an afternoon walk on the Square. When the rain came in they took the opportunity to take an ice cream break at Scoops on the Square.
Bear Hollow Zoo in Athens, Georgia has something for everyone. A short drive from Newton and Rockdale counties, this zoo offers a wide variety of wild animals. Here you can find a owls, bears, an American bald eagle and a reptile house with a variety of snakes and alligators. Volunteers educated on each of the animals are on hand to answer questions and offer a hands-on visit with some of the wildlife. The Bear Hollow Zoo is free for all visitors. The Newton County Arts Association's final spring concert on the Square entertained residents Thursday. The John Brown Quartet rounded out the season's five performances, playing familiar hits from the 1960's and 70's such as "Mustang Sally."
