Two roads to see drainage improvements

County officials at their Dec. 4 board meeting approved a new fee proposal for design of alignment and drainage improvements to Livingston Lane and Veal Road. County engineer Tom Garrett made the recommendation to the board to replace the existing purchase order with Hatch Mott McDonald, which has a remaining balance of $135,759.06, with a purchase order to Moreland Altobelli Associates in the amount of $87,687.80.

County OKs Baxter loan

The Newton County Board of Commissioners at their meeting Tuesday approved a resolution and intergovernmental agreement for a $5.9 million GEFA loan that will help to fund a wastewater pretreatment facility for Baxter International.

911 Center receives third accreditation

The Covington-Newton County 911 Center has received its third accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The Covington-Newton County 911 Communications Center attended the CALEA Conference in Jacksonville, Fla., in November, where they received their Gold Standards accreditation, according to a release from the communications center.
