School district honors retirees

The Newton County Board of Education held a retirement dinner on Thursday for employees. The event honored the many years of service of 54 retirees, who included teachers, administrators and personnel at a number of schools and departments in the county.

Kite Day with Dad

Kites were flying high outside of Oak Hill Elementary School Friday morning. More than a dozen Pre-K students enjoyed the fresh air and flew colorful and character-themed kites with their dads. After kites soared through the blue skies, students returned back to the classroom and danced with music performing for their parents and families, and then enjoyed lunch.

"Ahh, my back," a Newton High School health care student shrieked as she was treated for her mock injury by staff at Newton Medical Center. Her pre-planned injury was the result of a phony tornado that was said to have touched down in Porterdale, injuring residents and destroying the blood lab at the hospital.
