Jealous rage at Newton Medical

Officers from the Covington Police Department responded to Newton Medical Center Tuesday evening after a woman's ex-boyfriend reportedly attacked her car in a jealous rage.

According to reports the woman, as she was coming from inside the hospital with friends, was confronted by a former boyfriend, identified as Nicholas Partain. She reportedly told officers that when she saw Partain she quickly walked to her car and despite his attempts to speak with her, she ignored him. This allegedly caused him to become angry and throw a backpack at her, striking her in the upper back.

2 teachers caught smoking marijuana

Two Newton County special education teachers were arrested for possession of marijuana after an off-duty officer reportedly saw the duo using drugs last Friday in a vehicle parked in the Covington Corners parking lot after they left school following field day activities.

Wanted teen holes up in home's attic

Covington/Newton County SWAT Team were called to a home in south Newton County Thursday afternoon after a teen wanted for robbery was reportedly holed up in a home with a shotgun.

According to Newton County Sheriff's Department 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell, deputies first located 18-year-old Ryan Peter-Horn Wednesday evening, but the young man fled before they were able to apprehend him on the outstanding robbery warrants.

GSP: accidents high on Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend is considered the official kickoff for summer and celebrations are a common occurrence in Newton County, but law enforcement officials are warning residents to celebrate safely because they will be out in force to make sure citizens are safe.

Generous donation

 At a time when county departments cannot afford to spend money on anything but necessities, the Newton County Sheriff's Department has received donations from several people that have enabled them to improve their four-person traffic unit.
 The NCSO has received a new motorcycle, bringing the total on the road to two, and various people have donated time and money to make sure the unit is top-notch.
