You only live once

Last month, I got caught in the massive hail storm while teaching in Stockbridge. I took a picture of the larger than a golf ball-sized hail that pummeled the houses and cars in the Monarch Village neighborhood.

Tech disconnect: be smart with smartphones

Those who know me know that I am constantly on my phone. If my phone is not already in my hand, it is always within reach. I am always texting, texting, texting or scheduling and rescheduling my students' lessons or tutoring sessions on my calendar. Then there are the endless lists and memos that I constantly make and update. Oh and there's the sermon notes that I make every Sunday on my iPhone because my mother likes to know what I'm learning each week. The integrity of writing: Plagiarism is stealing, period

There is something to be said about the written word and the weight it carries. In academia, there are strict rules against cheating - on homework assignments, quizzes and tests. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

I received tickets to see the puppetry adaptation of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. When I told people about it, they laughed thinking that I made it up. Apparently not very many people know that there is such a thing as puppetry arts, much less that Atlanta has a center for puppetry arts.

NewRock continues to grow

Family Promise, a collaborative interfaith nonprofit which provides hospitality and social services to help restore homeless families in the Rockdale and Newton counties community to sustainable independence, has grown tremendously since it began last year.

The program is made up of multiple churches in both Rockdale and Newton counties, hence the name Family Promise of NewRock. The program started out with the magic number of 13 churches to host one week, once every quarter, but has now grown to 15 churches with three additional support churches, too small to host themselves, but provide support to other churches.

You’ve got mail

I found out about the stamp ministry a year ago through my mother who started collecting and cutting out used stamps from every piece of mail that comes to the house. She puts them in this little clear plastic baggie that hangs on the side of the refrigerator on a magnet. She then told me that I should start cutting and collecting used stamps because it is so easy to do and serves a good cause.
