Covington, if you thought our limelight was dying down, think again. Not only is Covington known as The Hollywood of the South, and as the filming location of many popular television shows and movies, but we are gaining traction in the music department as well. Local country musician, Gannon Adams, has been on a roll with positive attention. Country music fans will fall in love with his upbeat mix of music. Especially his big hit "Game Face."

Last week, we crossed the halfway mark for the legislative session. The pace is really picking up, with the second half promising to be very intense. The House voted on 22 bills and resolutions during the week. Most were fairly minor issues or housekeeping measures, though we did pass two bills to restructure MARTA, which were obviously significant for folks inside the perimeter.
The House again saw only a handful of bills during our third week, but that situation won't last long, since the committees have begun to pump out a steady stream of new legislation. Eastside High School FFA is proud of our Livestock Show Team members. We are fortunate to have some of the top livestock competitors in the state of Georgia. Livestock showing is what most people think about when they think FFA. While it is true there are many students who show livestock, there is more to it than what you see on the surface.
Eastside is fortunate to have several equestrians who are very competitive on the state and national level of horse showing. We have a wide variety of equine enthusiasts from Western Pleasure and English Equitation to Barrel Racing competitors.
GROW is the 2013 theme for the National FFA Organization. At Eastside High School, we take this theme seriously and hope to GROW our FFA chapter and the students' involvement at the school, county, region, state and national level.
IN BRIEF: A single-vehicle crash reportedly killed one person and sent another to the hospital on Saturday early morning. The crash reportedly occured on Costley Mill Road near Ga. Highway 138 in Rockdale County around 4:30 a.m. The passenger of the vehicle was killed and the driver was reportedly taken to an Atlanta area hospital. Check back for more information later.

This week the Georgia General Assembly reconvened after a one-week recess to review Governor Nathan Deal's recommendations for the Amended FY13 Budget and FY14 Budget. We are on Day 9 of the 2013 session, but already my colleagues and I are hard at work filing legislation, meeting with our committees, and listening to the needs of our constituents.
