Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Has the LORD redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.
Lord, you have been our resting-place in all generations. Before the mountains were made, before you had given birth to the earth and the world, before time was, and forever, you are God.
"Keep in mind the days of the past, give thought to the years of generations gone by: go to your father and he will make it clear to you, to the old men and they will give you the story."
Then [Stephen] knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he died.
Then [Jesus] turned to his host. "When you put on a luncheon or a banquet," he said, "don't invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you."
"Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose."
"Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds."
"O Lord, who are we that you should notice us, mere mortals that you should care for us? For we are like a breath of air; our days are like a passing shadow."
"Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law." Romans 13:10 Have you ever wondered why we have laws? Sometimes we wonder why we even need laws, but every time I drive onto the freeway in the city, I remember why we need laws. People like to push the boundaries, especially on the highway. If the speed limit is 55, we automatically want to go 60. If the speed ...
"Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually." Psalm 105:4 Have you ever spent time with a good book? I love to read, and I always treasure the time that I can curl up and immerse myself in another world - the world of a book. I love going on those adventures of the mind, seeing sights I have never seen before, imagining worlds very different from the world around me. Books can ...
"Our help is from the LORD, who made heaven and earth." Psalm 124:8 (New Living Translation) When I was growing up, people used to say things like, "Well, bless my soul." I think back to those expressions that we don't really hear anymore. I long for those days. You see, today, people have a tendency to say other things, most of which cannot be repeated in polite company and respectable newspaper columns. Think about it. ...
"How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!" Psalm 133:1 (New Revised Standard Version) Have you ever heard someone say, "They love each other like brothers?" That usually means that the people being discussed have their agreements and disagreements, but they always stick together in the hard times. Well, having four boys in our house, I can tell you that brothers don't always get along, but when they do, ...
I never cease to be amazed at people and how they react to good news. I remember watching television game shows with my grandmother when I was a child. Her favorite was the game show where the contestants had to guess the price of something, and if they were lucky enough to guess close enough to the actual price, they would win the item as their prize. Some of the contestants would run to the ...
