The Infant Christ is a living symbol of the humility of God who left the glory of heaven to come to earth in poverty and obscurity, showing us that we too are to be little and simple and to give our lives for others.
As you gather around friends and loved ones this Christmas, here are a few thoughts to inspire and encourage you. All of them remind us of the true meaning of Christmas and we need to remember Jesus is the reason for the season and we should keep that Christmas spirit alive every day, not just at Christmas.
I've been told that I am persnickety and too set in my old school ways about some things and not an easy sell when it comes to change. I like things a certain way, and if it works I don't see any good reason to change anything. I'm quite content to sacrifice style for comfort even though it drives Sweet Pea and the kids crazy that I have a closet full of clothes I haven't ...
It seems the Christmas holidays arrive a little earlier every year, thanks in part to retailers pushing to get every sale they can. This year we saw Christmas decorations out well before Halloween and a few communities have already put up Christmas decorations and turned on their Christmas lights.
I don't usually get into current events but you have to admit, the recent developments in the 'Occupy' movements and local political activity have been quite interesting, to say the least.
Halloween has always been my favorite holiday since I was a little girl. There's just something special and magical about Halloween. When the leaves began turning and falling from the trees, the excitement began as we counted down the days to Halloween. In school, we would make stuffed pumpkins from grocery bags and paint them bright orange and draw on their faces. Daddy and I would pick the perfect pumpkin to transform into a magical jack-o'-lantern.
Don't you just love this time of year? What's to complain about? The weather is just perfect and with the cooler temperatures I enjoy spending more time outside, especially now that I don't have to worry about running across those dreaded snakes.
It's a good thing I don't watch TV that much. Either I am very persnickety or there just isn't much on TV worth watching. There are very few prime time shows that don't contain violence, nudity or profanity. I'm not interested in "Bachelor" or "Bachelorette" shows about somebody trying to find Mr. or Miss Perfect out of 100 or so candidates. Makes you think something must be wrong somewhere if they are willing to take ...
September 11 used to be just another date on the calendar, but two very different events soon changed that.
"Life is too short to wake up with regrets. Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. God never said life would be easy. He just promised it would be worth it." I had not intended to write another sappy ...
Have you heard the buzz? If not, you're either not on Facebook or haven't checked in lately. Not only has Facebook become more popular than ever before, but some folks spend more time on Facebook than they do anything, even eating or sleeping. You never know what people are gonna share on Facebook - everything from what they're having for dinner, to how they're feeling and even when they went to the bathroom. If you're ...
I finally get a chance to write about something I am very passionate about. Now don't let your mind start wondering, 'cause it ain't what you're thinking and besides, this is a family friendly paper, you know. There's lots of things I like to do when and if I have any extra time which rarely happens. One thing that doesn't require any effort is listening to music and music affects people in different ways.
It's been a while since my first 'tell all' column about my experience from working at Walmart and boy have I got a story for you! As everybody knows, you can't just run down to Walmart without running into somebody or seeing something and coming back with a story to tell. You don't even have to go in Walmart to see the action either sometimes. If you happened to be at the Covington Walmart on a recent Friday evening, you'll know what I am talking about.
I am looking forward to a long holiday weekend doing absolutely nothing. You know you've got a bad case of the summertime blahs when you look forward to doing nothing. Sometimes you stay so busy doing nothing is a welcome relief but it rarely works like that. June has been quite a busy month with birthdays, holidays, baby showers and weddings filling nearly every weekend, but, finally, we get an extra day to kick back and relax a little.
I thought it only fitting to dedicate this column to My Dad in honor of Father's Day. So, let me tell y'all about my Daddy. There's not enough space here to tell the world what an amazing, wonderful, inspiration you are to me, Daddy, and even summing it up with a few short words doesn't begin to give you the love and honor you truly deserve. My Dad is not just the greatest Dad ever, ...
