Covington Police Department arrested a man and his wife for possession of methamphetamine less than one ounce with intent to distribute at Covington Lodge after responding to an anonymous call March 3.
Recently it was announced that this year's graduation will be taking place at Sharp Stadium. Eastside High School's graduation will be taking place on Friday, May 25at 7 p.m. Alcovy and Newton graduations will be taking place the following day.
Friday, Mar. 2, would have been Theodor Seuss Geisel's (otherwise known as Dr. Seuss) 108th birthday. In his memory, the Newton County Library held their annual reading of his most popular books in their meeting room.
Eastside High School's drama department will present their spring production "Little Shop of Horrors" at 7 p.m. March 1 and 3, and 2:30 p.m. March 4, in the school's auditorium. Tickets will cost $3 for teachers, $5 for students and $7 for adults.
This year, Eastside High School started their first black history program off with a bang. During social studies classes on Tuesday, students and staff members reported to the auditorium to watch the presentation.

On Feb. 21, Virginia Pearson, co-founder of Operation Sandbox, donated over 800 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq along with those serving on the home front as well. The Girl Scout cookies were donated by Charlotte McGuley who is currently working on her gold star award through the Girl Scout program.
On Feb. 20 at 9:13 p.m., Officer Gene Nuqui responded to a fight that took place at Stevi B's Pizza on U.S. Hwy 278. Officer Nuqui was advised via radio that two female customers were fighting inside of the restaurant after a verbal confrontation. Both subjects were placed under an arrest.
