Rockdale superintendent gets Va. job

Rockdale Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Samuel King has been chosen as the new superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools in Norfolk, Virginia. The Norfolk school board approved hiring King in a 6-1 vote Monday evening, according to the Virginian-Pilot.

Honor flight departs from American Legion

Twenty-five World War II veterans, including several from Newton County, and their guardians flew to Washington, D.C. from Atlanta on Thursday in the inaugural flight of Honor Flight Conyers. The group left the American Legion Post 77 at 5 a.m., escorted by police, and spent the day in Washington D.C. visiting monuments and memorials such as the World War II memorial. The veterans, who came from across the metro Atlanta region and the state and ranged from ages 84 - 97, returned at 11:30 p.m travel-weary but proud.

Covington woman arrested for razor fight

A Covington woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a June 25 fight caught on video in which a 52-year-old Conyers woman was sliced on the face and abdomen and stabbed, according to Conyers Police Lt. Jackie Dunn.
