Bank robber given two life sentences

A Covington man with a record of armed robberies in Maryland was found guilty Thursday for the 2011 armed robbery of a Conyers bank and will likely spend the rest of his natural life in prison.

Honey Boo Boo in the house

Honey Boo Boo, aka Alana Thompson, of TLC's reality show spin-off "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," came to Conyers with her family and a TLC film crew on Thursday for a little holiday fun. Thompson took a spin on the ice at the ice skating rink at the Olde Town Pavilion as onlookers and fans watched from the sides. Gina Hartsell, Conyers-Rockdale's Camera Ready Liaison, said TLC producers called that day looking for places to stop by for holiday activities. The episode with the ice skating scenes might air sometime in January or February, she said.

Development gains from Baxter halo

IN BRIEF: The company behind the Corner Market and Village at Almand Creek Apartments has started the process of studies for the 308-acre plot of land in Conyers that has long been in the works for mixed use commercial and residential development. However, a spokesperson said project was not related to the Baxter International medical manufacturing development. "It's not related per se," said development coordinator David Roeper. "If it doesn't do anything else, it brings more attention to the I-20 east corridor. That news clearly impacts us."
