Clyde E. Castleberry

Clyde E. Castleberry of Covington, passed away November 5, 2009, at the age of 91. Mr. Castleberry was a member of Covington First United Methodist Church, and also an active member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was an Army Veteran, and proudly served his country during World War II, being among the first of Newton County to volunteer for the draft. Mr. Castleberry served as Covington City Clerk for several years during the 1950’s. Following his work with the City, he worked for Marshall & Bruce, selling courthouse supplies, before starting his own company, Clyde Castleberry Co., also selling courthouse supplies and equipment. He was the oldest active “Charter” member of the Covington Athletic Club. In addition, he was a member of the Covington Kiwanas Club, Golden Fleece Lodge #6, and the American Legion Post #32. Mr. Castleberry was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ozella Rice Castleberry; and his brother, Joseph Carl Castleberry. Survivors include his loving wife, Joanne Malcom Castleberry; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Linda Castleberry, Lester and Connie Castleberry, Charles and Shelia Castleberry; grandchildren, Craig (Emily) Castleberry, Leslie-Ann (Evan) Posey, Amber (Stephen) Cole; great-grandchildren, Perry Lane and Monroe Posey, all of Covington; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Castleberry will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009, 11 AM, at Covington First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Douglas Gilreath and Rev. E. Gail Thompson officiating, and interment following in Covington City Cemetery. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to Covington First United Methodist Church, Building Fund/Memorial Fund, 1113 Conyers St., Covington, GA 30014.
