Members of the Chase Cain Memorial Foundation again have organized a golf tournament to benefit the foundation’s efforts. The tournament is scheduled for Nov. 6 at the Indian Creek Golf Course.

Chase Cain, a Covington teenager, was killed in a tragic car accident in October 2004. Cain was an honor student and participated in various extracurricular activities including serving as an after-school mentor through the YMCA as well as coaching area YMCA teams. He was also involved with his church’s local mission programs.

After his death, loved ones and community members gathered to create a memorial foundation with a mission "to empower young people to make a difference in their schools and community."

The foundation now provides scholarships for local students to attend college, camps, training seminars, team activities and other academic programs. It also has helped support local student-led organizations such as Future Farmers of America, YMCA summer camp and a few church mission trips. In 2006, the foundation donated funds to the YMCA to build an outdoor soccer complex on Stone Road in Oxford. The field has since been named in memory of Cain and in appreciation for his memorial fund’s assistance.

Since its inception, the fund has provided college scholarship help to 11 local high school seniors.

The second Chase Cain Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament will have a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 6 with check-in beginning at 8 a.m. Team entry fees are $300 and hole sponsorships are $100. Team entry fees include green fees, cart fees, breakfast, range balls, entry for putting contest and door prizes.

Awards will be giving for first, second and third place teams, longest drive and longest putt. Ginn Motor Company will sponsor a hole-in-one contest in which a winner would receive a free car.

For more information or to register for the tournament or make a donation, visit www.chasecainfoundation.org or call event coordinator Debbie Shepherd at (770) 786-2181.
