The Mutt Show: a dog-gone good time

/

Covington resident Rayven Banks holds her dog Charlie who took home the third place ribbon for Most Handsome Dog during The Mutt Show on the Covington Square in the 2008 show.

Dogs from around Newton County will be strutting their stuff at the annual Mutt Show beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the square.

Sponsored by the Humane Society of Newton County, the event will feature the county's cutest, most stylish and most energetic dogs, who will compete in seven competitions: Most Beautiful Female, Most Handsome Male, Best Dressed, Waggiest Tail, Best Kisser, Best Trick and the Look Alike Contest, where the most similar dog and owner will take home the prize.

Registration begins on the square at 9:30 a.m. and there is no cost to enter. The judging will start at 10 a.m. Dogs must be at least six months old, must be on a leash and owners must provide proof of the dog's rabies vaccination.

"All dogs are welcome, mutts and purebreds," said Betty Bellairs, local Humane Society chairman.

Donations are welcome and will be used by the local Humane Society to help with the spay and neuter programs and other educational programs, Bellairs said.

In addition to the competition, contestants and spectators will be able to buy pictures of the winning dogs and will be able to order DVDs of the event.

For more information, call Bellairs at (770) 786-2827.
