Equalla Blue Clark

Sister Equalla Blue Clark died Sept. 25. The only child of the late Lucille and Monte Blue, she was born in 1943. After the death of her mother, she was raised by her grandmother Julia Clements, affectionately known as "Rye." She attended Newton County schools and graduated from Claflin College, S.C., with a degree in education. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She began her teaching career in the Newton County School System and later gave birth to her only child Julia Peytrienne James, whom she dearly loved. She joined Bethlehem Baptist Church and in 1994 married Deacon Willie G. Clark and moved her membership to Bethel Grove Baptist Church, Mansfield, where she faithfully served. Mrs. Clark had a personality and style of her very own. She was confident, strong and humble and was known for her hats, candy and bags she generously gave to all. She was preceded in death by her mother Julia "Rye" Clements and her uncle Robert L. "Clem" Clements. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, generosity and love.

Surviving are her husband Dea. Willie G. Clark; daughter Julia "Pey" James; stepson Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan (Shonna) Clark; grandchildren Jonathan Clark II, Kirsten Clark; uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Jesse (Julia) Clements; brothers-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Tommy (Mamie) Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Gloria) Clark; Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Harriet) Clark; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred (Kathy) Clark, Mr. Clifford Clark; sisters-in-law Ms. Elizabeth Brown, Ms. Clara Clark; an extended daughter the Rev. and Mrs. H.K. (Belinda) Benton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and devoted friends.

Funeral services were held Sept. 29 at Bethel Grove Baptist Church, Mansfield with Pastor Theodis Bell officiating. Interment followed in West Side Cemetery.
