Local receives UGA scholarship

 Emily Lucille Wyatt has been selected to receive the Southern States Cooperative Scholarship awarded by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences for the 2009-2010 academic year. Each year the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences awards approximately $100,000 in scholarships to students studying in any of its 24 majors.

 This annual Southern States Cooperative Scholarship program is awarded to students in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences who have been active in 4-H or FFA. Southern States Cooperative is a farmer co-op founded in 1923 and today operates in 25 states as one of the largest U.S. farmer cooperatives.

 Wyatt is a sophomore at the University of Georgia majoring in Animal Health. She is a 2008 graduate from Newton High School. While in high school, she was an active member of the Student Government Association, Beta Club, 4-H Horse Club and Amicae Junior Civilian. She was also on the All A Honor Roll and a Top 10 graduate. Wyatt plans to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after attending UGA.

 Wyatt is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donny Wyatt of Covington.
