Summer night in Social Circle

Lee Sandow/

The Alcovy River band performed in the second concert in the city of Social Circle’s summer concert series, sponsored by the Social Circle Better Hometown program.

The band, which plays covers from artists ranging from Led Zeppelin to the Dixie Chicks to Queen — and everything in between — drew a sizeable crowd throughout the concert. The band played for about two hours.

According to lead singer Joyceann Solomon, the band formed three years ago through their church, the Holy Cross Anglican, Loganville.

Solomon said that the band played for fun and as a way of spending time together as friends, and they don’t intend to take the band on tour or to try for worldwide fame. They enjoy playing for the local communities and playing on Sundays in church.

The Better Hometown Program plans to have another concert in September but currently does not have a band lined up.

The program will also be hosting the annual Friendship Festival on Oct. 3. The Alcovy River Band is currently booked to perform at the festival.
