Betty Lee Sims Glover

Mrs. Betty Lee Sims Glover died June 27 in Rockdale County. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mr. Rube (Lessie Benton) Sims, she was born in 1940 in Newton County. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Johnny Thomas Glover; children Lisa, Scottie and Freda; one grandson; brothers Willie and Charlie Sims; and sisters Cleo Parks, Annie Chandler, Mamie and Belle. Mrs. Glover joined Murray CME at an early age and served on the Usher Board and Stewardess and sang in the choir. She was an active and faithful member until her health declined. She overcame many obstacles and kept her faith in God. Many knew Mrs. Glover by her home-cooked meals. She enjoyed cleaning, gardening, dancing, telling jokes, listening to gospel music and taking care of her family. She helped raise her grandchildren and other children she took in as family members. She was known as Granny, Nana, Grandma, Betty Lou and Betty Polly. She was a loving, caring and outspoken person.

Surviving are daughters Ms. Sharon Durden and Ms. Vicki Sims; sons Mr. Ronnie Belcher, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey (Angela) Belcher, Mr. Dexter Sims, all of Covington; stepchildren Marshell (James) Woods, Dwight (Latrice) Grier, Derica Williams, Mary (Cedric) Carr, Tracy (Michael) Woods; 39 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; brother Mr. James (Geraldine) Sims of Covington; sisters Mrs. Clara (Henry) Foster of Atlanta, Mrs. Pena Lindsey, Mrs. Obera Jenkins, both of Covington; sisters-in-law Mrs. Mary Sims of Covington, Mrs. Mattie Belcher of Oxford, Mrs. Jenny Glover of Decatur, Mrs. Edna Glover of New Jersey, Ms. Geneva Hart and Ms. Kathryn Hardeman, both of Newborn; brothers-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Mary) Glover, Mr. S.T. Gibbs, both of Decatur; special friends Ms. Darlene Strong, Ms. Pat Stewart, Mr. Lindsey P., Belcher, all of Covington; caregivers Ben Lee Cook and Vanessa Little, both of Covington; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 3 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlton Mathis, the Rev. James Collins, the Rev. Annette Nash, the Rev. Lamar Bell, the Rev. Theodis Bell and the Rev. Kenneth Norrington officiating. Interment followed at Macedonia Community Cemetery.
