An 18-year-old Ohio man was arrested Monday afternoon minutes after he reportedly robbed a drug store employee at gunpoint.

According to a press release from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the new Walgreens drug store on Brown Bridge Road at approximately 1:50 p.m. After speaking with witnesses, it was found that the suspect had run behind the store toward Brown Bridge Road.

Deputies glanced in the direction the witness indicated, and allegedly saw Benjamin Olin Williams Jr. running across the road into the Goodyear Tire Center parking lot. Deputies gave chase and, after a short while, were able to apprehend Williams and recover both the merchandise stolen in the robbery and the weapon used in the crime.

"I am grateful to the citizens that assisted us in locating the perpetrator and am thankful the armed robbery suspect was taken into custody without sheriff’s deputies or citizens being harmed," said Sheriff Ezell Brown.

Williams was arrested and transported to the Newton County Detention Center, where he was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
