Council plans for land purchase

The city of Social Circle approved plans for a $605,000 loan at the city council meeting on Tuesday, planning to use the money to purchase properties to allow for the expansion of the city cemetery.

The loan will be taken from Pinnacle Bank, assuming the interest rate is not more than 1.5 percent. If it is higher, the council voted to wait until such a rate would become available, or to look for loan money elsewhere.

The money would be used to purchase properties from Bruno Properties, based in Covington. The purchased duplexes would be demolished to make room for further cemetery space.

The deal between the city of Social Circle and Bruno Properties has been in negotiation for over two years.

The city council also passed a resolution on Tuesday to endorse the nomination of Judge Samuel Ozburn to the Ga. Supreme Court. Ozburn currently serves as a member of the Superior Court for the Alcovy District.

The city also announced it was finally a part again of the Walton County emergency management plan. Steve Shelton, chief of the Department of Public Safety, explained that this allowed the city to be part of Walton County grants and would allow the city to share fire and police response vehicles with other cities.

Finally, the council voted to again advertise with the high school booster club, and place a full page advertisement in their programs. This deal will cost the city $150.
