Bond denied to Kirkland Road shooter

Man reportedly killed one, shot three, after fight at birthday party

A Riverdale man who was charged in the July shooting death of a 17-year-old Covington youth was denied bond by Superior Court Judge John Ott on March 31.

Delaney Douglas Robinson is charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after a fight at a birthday party on Kirkland Road turned deadly.

Detectives from the Newton County Sheriff’s Department allege that Robinson began arguing with Joseph Matthew Miller, 17, and two other young men, aged 18 and 19, and during the course of the argument he reportedly pulled a gun from his waistband and shot all three young men.

According to Detective Sonny Goodson, no drugs or alcohol appeared to be involved in the incident and none of the victims were armed at the time of the incident.

Robinson reportedly shot each victim once at close range with a .45 caliber handgun, before going across the street to a business and calling 911. Deputies found Robinson still at the business where he called from and arrested him without incident.

Both surviving victims were treated and released from Atlanta Medical Center. Miller died of his injuries before first responders arrived at the scene.
