Mrs. Hattie Ricks, 79, a lifelong resident of Newton County, died Jan. 26. The daughter of the late Stafford and Lillian (Evans) Smith, she was born in Newton County in 1929. Mrs. Ricks loved gardening. Mrs. Ricks was preceded in death by her husband James Ricks, daughter Shirley Allen and her parents.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law James and Linda Allen of Conyers, Harry and Marie Allen of Covington, R.L. and Jane Allen of Covington; daughter Shelia Cunningham of Covington; son Jerry Allen of Covington; daughter and son-in-law Tracy and James Teal of Rutledge; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous other family and friends.
The funeral service for Mrs. Ricks will be 11 a.m. today, Jan. 28, in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may sign the online registry at www.wheelerfuneralhome.com.
