T.K. Adams to dedicate last performance to Dobbs

/

T.K. Adams will be performing on the Square on July 4 from 5-6 p.m.

T.K. Adams’ final performance leading the Newton County Community Band will not only be for residents but also a gift to his long-time friend, the late Bill Dobbs.

The former Covington mayor passed away May 4, and among his contributions to the city was asking Adams to start a community band for adults.

From that day in 1993 until his retirement in April of this year Adams has led that band in concerts throughout the year, including on the Square at Christmas time and Fourth of July.

Adams and his band’s renditions of patriotic themes during the fourth was Dobbs’ favorite. Adams even played some marches and patriotic tunes during Dobbs’ funeral at the Newton Recreation Department’s Turner Lake Complex. That’s why Adams felt this July 4 was an appropriate way to show homage to his friend.

The community band will perform on the Square from 5-6 p.m., following a birthday celebration for Adams at the Washington Street Community Center form 1-3 p.m. that same day.

Adams, who was born in 1934, will turn 80 on America’s 238th birthday.
