Mitcham Farm to host strawberry festival

Strawberries have always been available at Mitcham Farm, and for the first time, the Oxford establishment will host a strawberry festival to kick off spring.

The strawberry picking and tractor show festival runs from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday, and will feature an assortment of activities.

The free event will host a North Georgia 2 Cylinder Tractor Club show until 2 p.m., various arts and crafts, pick-your-own strawberries, a petting zoo, a dynamometer, a slow race, a plow demo and many others. For children specifically, there will be a cow train, a space walk, and face painting, and plenty of other ways for your child to have a good time.

The North Georgia 2 Cylinder Tractor Club is also hosting a hayride in order to raise charity and make donations for scholarships. There will also be large amounts of food, homemade jellies and jams, and of course plenty of strawberries. Not to mention, between 2:30- 5 p.m., there will be country music performed by Josh Millwood and Idlewood South.

“Well this is our first year, we only have our other activities such as our annual corn maze and hayrides in the fall, so we really have no idea what kind of crowd to expect (this spring),” said Kevin Mitcham, owner of Mitcham Farm. “We are going to improve from this year to next year.”

The purpose of the festival is to promote Mitcham Farm, and the strawberries and other produce that the grow year-round. The motto for the event as seen on the flyer is “Makin’ Memories while Pickin’ Strawberries.”

The location of the event is at 797 Macedonia Church Rd, Oxford GA 30054. You can contact Kevin Mitcham at 770-855-1530 or visit the farm’s website at mitchamfarm.com.
