Social Circle man arrested for child molestation

A Social Circle resident was arrested Wednesday in Florida for three counts of child molestation.

Donald Wayne Ewing, 67, of the 300 block of West Hightower Trail, had three warrants with the Social Circle Police Department for offenses allegedly occurring last during 2013. The teenaged victim’s parents brought the molestations to the attention of the police department.

The forensic unit at SCPD assisted in interviews with the victim, according to SCPD Police Chief Terry Sosebee.
According to Social Circle police reports, the arrest was made by the Fernandina Beach Police Department in Florida. It is not known whether Ewing owns or rents a residence in Fernandina Beach, but the reports also stated he is known to have residences in Cleveland, Ga., and in the Amelia Island, Fla., area.

SCPD had reason to believe Ewing was at a residence in Fernandina Beach, Sosebee said, which led officers to ask for assistance by the FBPD around 2:30 p.m. Fernandina Beach officers checked the residence several times before locating Ewing.

The arrest warrants had been entered into the National Crime Enforcement Information Center, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been provided information on the suspect.

Sosebee said the arrest was made around 10 p.m. Wednesday and that Ewing had his arraignment Thursday. SCPD officers were on their way to pick Ewing up from Florida at the time The News was notified of his arrest.

There may be additional investigations in another jurisdiction, according to Sosebee.
