Student choirs take Disney trip

Choirs from two Newton County schools traveled over 400 miles to perform at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., becoming the stars of their own Disney show on April 5.

The Clements Middle School and Alcovy High School choirs took part in the Disney Performing Arts Program by entertaining guests in the Melody Gardens Theater in EPCOT Park. This was the first time the schools visited the resort with the Performing Arts Program.

Ciara Edge and Chante Pittman directed the students, who put on a “musically delightful show for the guests visiting the unique entertainment area.” The group’s performance consisted of several selections, including “Cups” from the movie-musical “Pitch Perfect.”

“By being part of the special show production, the students got an inside look at what it is like to be a professional in the entertainment industry,” said Angie Kline, public relations coordinator for the Disney Performing Arts Program.

The Performing Arts Program at Disney is more than 25 years old and offers the opportunity to perform at one of the two resorts in the country for an international audience of theme park guests. Vocal, instrumental and dance ensembles from around the world apply to perform each year.
