Monday is voter registration deadline

Monday is the voter registration deadline for anyone who wants to vote in May 20 Primary Election.

Anyone who hasn’t ever registered to vote or hasn’t registered since moving into Newton County or moved to a different residence within the county must register by Monday to ensure they’ll be able to vote in the upcoming Primary election.

Below is how to register in Newton County.

In person:
- The Newton County Board of Elections, 1113 Usher St., Covington
- Covington Branch Library, 7116 Floyd St., Covington (closed Monday)
- Porter Memorial Branch, 6191 Ga, Highway 212, Covington (closed Thursday and Friday, open Saturday and Sunday)
- Newborn Library Service Outlet, 4224 Ga. Highway 142, Newborn (open only Monday and Wednesday)
- Any city hall in the county (Covington, Mansfield, Newborn, Oxford, Porterdale)
- At the Department of Driver Services if they’re also getting their driver’s license

Online:
- Go to the Georgia Secretary of State’s website at registertovote.sos.ga.gov/GAOLVR; have your driver’s license info handy.

Via phone app:
The “My Voter Page” app can also be used to register to vote, and also allows propsective voters to view their specific sample ballot, find their polling locations, check voter registration status and track the status of their absentee ballot. The app is available in both Apple and Android platforms and can be found by searching “GA Votes” in the app store.

By mail:
- Download a voter registration application online at sos.ga.gov/index.php/elections/register_to_vote and then mail it to the Board of Elections at P.O. Box 1274, Covington, GA 30015.

Note: If a person register’s by mail or at any place that is not the Board of Elections, local elections officials recommend residents call to ensure their applications have been received.

Once an application is processed, a voter registration card with precinct and other information will be sent in approximately three to four weeks.
