Annual Fairy House Festival to return

Covington’s Chimney Park will once again host the Fairy House Festival on Saturday, May 3, from 2-5 p.m.

The rain date will be Sunday, May 4, in attempt to prevent a cancellation such as the one that occurred from weather a year ago.

The Fairy House Festival is sponsored by Friends of Newton Parks, Inc., and chaired by Linda Shore. It’s a day when children and adults free their imaginations to create a magical forest filled with tiny fairy houses, all from natural materials such as bark, twigs, logs, leaves, flowers and pebbles. Attendees, including children and adults, turn out in fanciful costumes that add to the light-hearted experiences of the day.

According to Shore, the festival will offer an array of crafts, music, refreshments and entertainment.

“For the first time, vendors will be on site to sell child or fairy-themed goods, along with handmade, homemade and homegrown items,” she said. “Space for a limited number of vendors must be purchased in advance.”

This year, attendees will enjoy the new wheelchair accessible pathway into the park that begins in the parking lot at the county health building, adjacent to the county library, and a concrete and brick gathering place around a fire pit in the heart of the park. The woods will be filled with fanciful decorations adding to the enchantment of a place just meant for exploring and imaginative pursuits.

Admission is $5 per person with children under 2 admitted free. The fee covers refreshments, entertainment and crafts, including decorated fairy wings.

Please contact Linda Shore at 404-408-9366 or linjshore@gmail.com for further information or to discuss becoming a vendor.
