Spring Fling to be held at Gaither’s Planation

A new event is starting up at Gaither’s Planation in a few weeks, and the organizer hopes it will become an annual rite of Spring.

The inaugural Spring Fling and Festival will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 12 at the plantation, 270 Davis Ford Road, Covington. The event is being organized by Katie Cannon with A Southern Lady’s Events.

“This year’s Spring Fling will be turned back into a Worker’s Farm Day. There are going to be horses, cows, and chickens” Cannon said. “We really want to bring back the older way it used to be.”

The event will include music, arts, food, agriculture-themed activities and antique tractors.

There will also be a raffle; tickets cost $5 per person and a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the 4-H and FFA clubs of Newton County.

The heart and soul behind the event is Cannon herself, who said she created the event to display the beauty of Newton County on the plantation.

“I created this event to give back to the community through a great deal of community service” Cannon said. “I’m hoping that having this event will help display the beauty of Newton County. I want to show that this place is really the jewel of Covington.

Gaither’s Plantation is a historic property that was once a working plantation and the site of Civil War battles, according to the county’s tourism website, GoCovington.com.
