Fashion show promotes heart health

Chi Tau Omega Chapter hosted its 2nd annual Pink Goes Red Fashion Show and Heart Awareness Forum at Stonecrest Mall on Saturday, Feb. 9, to raise awareness and promote the prevention of heart disease.

The event was coordinated by Chi Tau Omega’s Health Committee, in partnership with Metro Atlanta American Heart Association. Macy’s, Phoebe’s Boutique, and Cache’ provided the clothes that the models wore.

Soror Dr. Stephanie Miles-Richardson, of Morehouse School of Medicine, was the keynote speaker for the event and shared statistics about heart disease and its effects on women. Soror Lisa Rayam of Atlanta’s Fox 5 News was the commentator for the fashion show.

In addition to enjoying the fashion show in which members of Chi Tau Omega and its Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) modeled various red fashions, those attending also received gift bags with informational literature on heart disease and had the opportunity to receive free blood pressure screenings provided by Grady Hospital Pharmacy Association students and to sign up for blood pressure control programs. Survivors of heart disease and those impacted by heart disease had the opportunity to have their stories videotaped during the event.

Chef Maurice prepared heart-healthy meals and smoothies during the event. At the end of the event, Chi Tau Omega members strolled across the stage in red pumps before leading audience members in a dance to "The Wobble".
