The Social Circle Boys and Girls Club received a little tender loving care Dec. 6 and 7 as club members, staffers and volunteers came together to repaint and renovate the building.

Over the two-day period, dedicated volunteers, including volunteers from Club Blue, spent countless hours painting the hallways in cheerful, vibrant greens, purples and reds, in an effort to make the space friendly and inviting to club members, kids and their families.

"Even though we're not completely done with the project, you can see a different light in the kids' eyes. You can feel it belongs to them now," said SCBGC Director Krystal Williams. "Words can't express how much this means to us as a club."

The SCBGC, which began almost four years ago and now has 110 members, moved into the space in June of this year after the foundation which rented them the facility found this space, which was more suitable for a club. The club's previous space had been shared with other groups on the weekends for weddings and community events, but their new space is for the SCBGC alone.

"The new space that we have will allow us to do more programs and recruit more members," said Williams.
"It's different than what we had before," said Walton County Boys and Girls Club Board member Becky Dally. "(The foundation) had another smaller facility that was more conducive to a club and allowed us to modify it. It really is their club now." Dally was involved in starting the Social Circle branch because of the need for such programs, she said.

"Our children were so much in need of a safe place and a positive influence after school and in the summers," said Dally.

The second phase of the renovations will take place Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information on how to help, contact clubblueservice@gmail.com or call (770) 464-0069.
