Masked man attempts armed robbery in Oxford

Perpetrator not caught, no evidence found

Deputies with the Newton County Sheriff's Office are investigating an attempted armed robbery Dec. 11 at a home on Oxford Way in Oxford.

According to the incident report, the victim was at home when he heard a noise at the back door. When he went outside to investigate, he heard a gun cock and a man with a blue bandana covering his face emerged from the bushes with a shotgun. He said the man put the weapon in his face, after which the victim lay on the ground.

"He told me to get up and go in the house. I was moving slow enough to get away, but not fast enough to get into house. I heard someone say ‘police' and the guy bolted," the victim said.

Nothing was stolen from the house. The victim said he doesn't know who would want to attack his family like this, and he no longer feels safe in his home.

"It makes me want to move and right now; I'm looking to move now," he said.

Deputies checked the area, but did not find any evidence.
