Man sets fire, burns neighbor's property

A Social Circle man said his neighbor burned some of his property while burning trash. A report said a deputy with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Cooper Road in Social Circle Saturday, Feb. 8 in reference to a complaint about reckless conduct. A man told the deputy that his neighbor set a fire that spread onto his property.

According to the report, the fire burned within 10 yards of the man’s residence prior to being put out by the fire department. The deputy also reported that there was property damage to items in the man’s yard.

When the deputy spoke with the man’s neighbor, he stated that he started the fire to burn trash, but went back inside of his home for approximately 30 minutes. The neighbor did not obtain a burn permit for the fire, the report said.
