Concerned about where your food comes from? Interested in supporting the locally grown movement?

If you don't have the time to drive to the farmer's market in Atlanta every week to stock up on fresh produce, then you might want to check out Freshway Market of Social Circle as an alternative.

In business since 1977, Freshway Market has been located on North Cherokee Road since 1996.

The full-line supermarket distinguishes itself from other grocery stores by the produce and meat that it carries.

According to Store Manager Mike Martin, all of the produce sold at Freshway Market comes from the farmer's market in Atlanta. Freshway Market sends a truck to the farmers market every other day to purchase produce for the grocery store.

"We have everything. We have a full line of produce like you'd see in a normal grocery store," Martin said.

Freshway Market also cuts all of its own meat on premises unlike other grocery stores which have their meat processed in plants around the country.

"The one thing that sets us apart from everybody else is our meat department," Martin said. "We have the absolute best meat anywhere around."

What makes their meat so superior to other stores says Martin is that it is cut on site.

"We try to make sure that all of our chicken and beef are fresh products," he said. "We don't buy ground beef. We grind two pieces chuck for our ground beef which gives you a far better quality meat. We don't buy frozen."
