The Eastside Eagles captured their 11th win of the season Saturday on the road, defeating Henry County 58-43.

The Eastside Eagles varsity basketball team picked up its 11th win of the season Saturday on the road, handling Henry County 58-43.

The victory moves the Eagles to 11-2 this season, and the Eagles have not lost in almost a month since falling to Newton on Dec. 13.

Senior Treyvon Francis led the Eagles in the first quarter, scoring five points to help the Eagles to a 12-6 advantage.

The second quarter saw Eastside extend its lead to 14, as Justin Adams and Larry Saxton scored five points each to push the Eagles’ advantage to 26-12 at halftime. Eastside outscored the Warhawks 14-6 in the frame, limiting Henry County to six points in each of the opening two quarters.

The Eagles suffered a setback in the third quarter, however, as Eastside was whistled for 10 fouls in less than five minutes, sending Francis to the bench with four fouls after finishing the first half without a foul called against him.

“Teams are starting to target Treyvon on the court,” Eastside coach Gregory Freeman said. “The belief is that if he is not on the floor, we cannot function on offense. Tonight, we proved something different with Anthony Henderson running the point and Daniel Oduah imposing his will on the inside."

Henry County outscored the Eagles 20-15 in Francis’ absence, but the Eagles rallied back in the fourth to hold onto the win. Oduah scored eight points in the period, including a two-handed slam in the closing seconds, punctuating the victory.

“We needed to play a game just like this,” Freeman said. “A hostile environment and a team that literally scratched, kicked and elbowed all night long and we still prevailed. I am very proud of the way the guys maintained their composure through bad calls and rough play.”

Eastside’s game against Monroe Area Tuesday night was canceled. A makeup date has not been scheduled.
